Summer Dance Workshops - Helen Parlor

Four Saturdays. Four leading dance artists. For adult dancers, of all abilities!

For the first time this summer, NOCTURN brings you a range of one off weekend workshops, delivered by some of the top professional dancers from across the UK. 

Explore the vast landscape of contemporary dance from Limón to Contact work in these fun 'must try' workshops for adults. 

 

Course times: 10am - 1pm OR 2pm - 5pm

Please note that the morning and afternoon workshops will be the same, so you need only attend one.

Saturday 11 August – Helen Parlor

Helen’s class will focus on low sense of gravity to achieve dynamic. Using shifting sequences to alter direction, focus and orientation. She will challenge your natural sense of direction.

Helen Parlor

Helen has been working as a contemporary dancer, performer, choreographer and director for over 20 years. Completing her degree in vocational dance training at Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds; Helen has gone on to professionally work with choreographers Scott Ambler (AMP), Jonathon Lunn, Nikky Smedley, Banksy, Yael Flexer, Jamie Watton, Motionhouse and Panta Rei Danseteater, Norway.

 

Helen’s choreographic credits include creating the Paralympic Opening Ceremony London 2012 alongside Kevin Finnan, Jenny Sealey and Bradley Hemmings alongside international tours of her own work ‘Close Distance’ through her company Parlor Dance.

 

Helen lives and makes work in Milton Keynes and chairs the dance panel at Arts Gateway MK whilst artistically directing MÓTUS-a charity promoting dynamic and engaging dance from all styles in Milton Keynes; where she programmes nationally touring dance work in and around the city whilst creating national connections. Helen was recently the curator for a wide scale arts project across a new housing estate in Milton Keynes, designing and researching artists from all genres to be included within the programme.  Helen regularly mentors other artists in various stages of their career and works internationally as a rehearsal director, choreographer and facilitator. 

 

Most recently Helen has created work for MAP from Chichester University who are currently touring this work.
