Our work with young people
Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2
The smart way to use your PE and Sports Premium
NOCTURN offers a fresh approach in creative dance at Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2
We give children a voice to express their creativity through our distinctive form of contemporary dance and use of technology.
Focusing on your theme, topic or set of skills we stimulate imaginative exploration through creative contemporary based movement. Introducing dance to pupils in a new way to encourage them to take up sport and physical activities.
Providing expert and professionally trained dance teachers in and around the Thames Valley area. We can make sure we leave you with the skills and creative ways to embed physical activity into the school day.
From a day in a baker’s life during the Great Fire of London to following a quest set by magical dragons that leave clues around the school. It could be the surprise of pupils finding a crack in the school floor from which a secretive invisible family visits, tasked with explaining the meaning of our senses.
We create experiences for the single class right up to the whole school engagement projects.
Not only do your pupils get the right encouragement and feedback to grow from our expert teachers, we also foster positive peer-to-peer working.
Pupils will be challenged but will embrace theses tasks with excitement and pleasure.
Our projects are never ordinary! they spark the imagination.
At the heart of all our work is collaboration: we work with you, and your pupils, to get the very best out of dance.
In addition to sessions in support of your own themes and learning targets, we offer:
- Fun ideas for developing confidence, communication and literacy skills through dance;
- One on one training for teachers on delivering dance and creativity in the curriculum;
- Lesson plans and ideas to support creativity in lessons;
- Coaching in building exciting and innovative dance lessons; and
- Support for Arts Award Discover/Explore.
We only provide you with the best-qualified dance specialists and can bring our other collaborators, from visual artists to filmmakers, to your school.

A sample of our previous interventions
We build bespoke interventions into our programme for you.
We've covered topics from Africa to outer space, from the depths of the sea to historical figures and from art to science. Working on a large scale down to the smallest of ways.
Department of Questionable Creatures
One day, two ‘employees’ from our Department of Questionable Creatures arrive to find pupils flummoxed (but excitedly so) by the evidence strewn around their school. From large footprints, stinky poo to scales and bones. They are asked, ‘what strange creature lies hidden in there midst?’
Enlisting the pupils help, our ‘employees’ over the following 10 weeks, set them on a task to solve the mystery. Each week a new dance and visual art provocation pushes them closer to an answer. Focusing the pupils skills to see how many different ways there are to solve a single problem.
Going overboard for Arts Award
A schools Yr5 &6 pupils were exploring the history of Titanic. Supporting their topic, we created a dance piece with them, around the passenger liner tragic final hours.
Integrating dance and Arts Award gave the pupils a chance to not only participate in a dance activity but to also research artists and their work, their understand of art in a wider context and share their own arts discoveries.
SEN pupils explore internet safety
Movement, iPads, an alien facebook page and visual art were used to help children and young people with educational needs and disabilities to explore the dangers of being online.
An alien ‘Compluto’ became stranded in their school, with unfriendly counterpart ‘Stella Venus’ trying to befriend it. Over 10 weeks the pupils got to explore the fun of technology with Stella while being careful about who say they are their ‘friends’ online.
