Made by our community, delivered by NOCTURN
ILLUME is an inclusive contemporary performance group, for adults, who seek opportunities to perform.
We believe in the transformative power and impact of dance. Age is a positive attribute: we draw on our collective life experience to enhance our work.
Under the artistic guidance of John Darvell, our self-governing group strive, push and challenge each other to create and perform work of excellence.
Formed in 2010, we have gained a reputation across the South East for delivering high quality dance performances, influenced by the work of NOCTURN but with our own style, while still celebrating our diverse nature.

'Says on the tin!'
A celebration about all the good things that come from being involved in dance at a later stage of life. It’s about the stories of the dancers themselves, those unfounded fears they had before walking into the class, and the fun they’ve had since. We want this piece to be about welcoming in new people and saying to them ‘it’s ok to try something new’.
This piece was created for and by our adult recreational dancers performance group ILLUME, showcased at 'Lift Off' dance platform at South Hill Park and 'Homegrown 2' Corn Exchange in 2014.
Known for producing work with impact, we achieve this by working together to unlock our hidden artistic depths.
As a member of ILLUME you will draw upon your rich life experience to create challenging dance.
Our creative talents are channelled, challenged and nurtured under the expertise of John as choreographer.
We are inclusive
We open our doors to all who embrace the opportunity to create, test themselves and have a desire to perform, no matter what previous dance experience or age.
Inspiring, energising and supporting each other are key to how we work together.
We love to perform
Yes we all have daytime jobs, most of which aren’t in the Arts.
